【摘要】:Thesetestmethodsprovideameasureofashippingcontainer''sabilitytoprotectaproductfromfailureduetohorizontalimpacts.Thesemeasuresarebasedoncontrolledlevelsofshockinputandmaybeusedforarrivingattheoptimumdesignofacontainerorsystemtoprotectaproductagainstaspecifiedlevelofshippingenvironmenthazard.Thesetestmethodsprovideameasureofapackagedproduct''sabilitytowithstandthevariouslevelsofshippingenvironmenthazards.Thesemeasuresmaybeusedtoprescribeamodeofshippingandhandlingthatwillnotinducedamagetothepackagedproductortodefinetherequiredlevelsofprotectionthatmustbeprovidedbyitspackaging.TestMethodAisintendedtosimulatetherailcarcouplingenvironment.RefertoMethodsD5277forsimulatingthestandarddraftgearportionofthatenvironment.1.1Thesetestmethodsareintendedtodeterminetheabilityofapackageorproducttowithstandlaboratorysimulatedhorizontalimpactforces.1.2Thehorizontalimpactsusedinthesetestmethodsareprogrammedshockinputsthatrepresentthehazardsastheyoccurintheshippingandhandlingenvironments.Theenvironmentalhazardsmayincluderailswitchingimpacts,lifttruckmarshallingimpacts,andsoforth.Thefollowingtestmethodsapply:1.2.1MethodA,RailCarSwitchingImpact8212;Thistestmethodsimulatesthetypesofshockpulsesexperiencedbyladinginrailcarswitching,withtheuseofarigidbulkheadontheleadingedgeofthetestcarriage,tosimulatetheendwallofarailcarandshockprogrammingdevicestoproducerepresentativeshockpulses.Withtheuseofbackloading,thistestmethodmayalsobeusedtosimulatecompressiveforcesexperiencedbyladingloadsduringrailcarswitching.Itissuitablefortestsofindividualcontainersorsystemsastheyareshippedinrailcars.Itmayalsobeusedtoevaluatetheeffectivenessofpalletpatternstodeterminetheeffectofinteractionbetweencontainersduringrailswitchingoperationimpacts.1.2.2MethodB,MarshallingImpactTestsofUnitLoads8212;Thistestmethodassessestheabilityofunitloadstowithstandtheforcesencounteredduringmarshallingorloadingoperations.1.3Thetestlevelsmaybevariedtorepresentthemodeonshippingandhandlingusedfortheitemundertest.1.4Thevaluesstatedininch-poundunitsaretoberegardedasstandard.ThevaluesgiveninparenthesesaremathematicalconversionstoSIunitsthatareprovidedforinformationonlyandarenotconsideredstandard.1.5Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
